Close up of a winter tyre

Why Choose Tyre Repair?

Replacing tyres can be expensive, especially if they’re relatively new. In many cases, a repair is all that’s needed to restore your tyre to full working order. Professional tyre repairs can:

  • Save you money compared to a replacement
  • Extend the lifespan of your tyres
  • Maintain safe handling and grip
  • Reduce waste and environmental impact

Not all tyre damage can be repaired, but our experts in Kettering will always check carefully before suggesting a replacement.

Common Causes of Tyre Damage

Tyres are exposed to constant stress, making them vulnerable to punctures and wear. The most common issues we see include:

  • Sharp objects like nails, screws, or glass
  • Hitting potholes or kerbs
  • Sidewall damage from scraping
  • Age-related cracking or wear
  • Uneven wear caused by alignment or suspension issues

During a tyre repair, our technicians inspect both the inside and outside of the tyre to ensure it’s safe to fix.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can all punctures be repaired?

No. A repair depends on the location and extent of the damage. Punctures within the central tread area may be repairable, subject to a full internal inspection. Damage to the shoulder, sidewall or internal structure will normally require a replacement.

Most straightforward puncture repairs can be completed in less than an hour. However, the exact time depends on the damage, tyre condition and workshop availability. Removing the tyre from the wheel allows our technicians to complete a proper internal examination before beginning the repair.

Possibly. A nail or screw in the central tread area may have caused repairable damage. Do not remove the object yourself, as it may be slowing the loss of air. Contact our garage so the tyre can be inspected safely.

Sidewall damage is generally not considered suitable for a standard puncture repair. The sidewall flexes whenever the vehicle moves and plays an important structural role. If it has been punctured, cut or badly scraped, replacing the tyre is normally the safest option.

A repaired tyre may pass an MOT if the repair is acceptable and the tyre remains safe and roadworthy. The tyre must also have sufficient tread and be free from serious cuts, exposed cords, bulges or structural defects. We inspect the complete tyre rather than assessing the puncture alone.

You should have a slow puncture inspected promptly. Continuing to drive can cause the tyre pressure to fall, affecting handling, braking and fuel efficiency. Driving on a severely underinflated tyre can also damage its internal structure and turn a repairable puncture into a required replacement.

Yes. Wheel balancing may be completed after the tyre has been refitted. Correct balancing helps the wheel rotate evenly and reduces unwanted vibration through the steering wheel. It can also help prevent uneven tyre wear and provide a smoother drive.

Yes. If the tyre cannot be repaired safely, we can recommend and supply a suitable replacement. We offer tyres for different makes, models, budgets and driving needs. You can have your new tyres fitted at our Kettering workshop.
